This Saturday the Southern Syrupmakers Association will hold their annual meeting and syrup cooking at the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement in Blountstown, FL. Starting time is about 8 a.m. Willard Smith recently obtained a tractor-mounted cane cutter built in 1970 and has refurbished it. It is ready to demonstrate to us on Saturday.
We will also discuss varieties of sugarcane with stalks for show-and-tell. Members sometimes bring their favorite varieties to show us.
It is an all day event that usually winds down by 3 p.m. after the syrup has been bottled. Cooking will be on a 100 gallon kettle and fired by gas burners.
See ya there!
