[Syrupmakers] Organic Sweet Sorghum Sugarcane Aphid Battle

Good morning,
I grow sugar cane in South Georgia. While I haven't had any aphids in my
cane patch, I have had them on my ferns. I have huge ferns (6) that are
used at weddings and events, so I can't have aphids ruining them. I have
had success with a tablespoon of blue Dawn and water in a spray bottle. I
do the underside of the leaves. Cause aphids love to hide where it's cool.
Another spray remedy for you may be oil that is scented. Essential
oils...thyme, peppermint, clove and rosemary. 4-5 drops of each with water
in a spray bottle. Aphids can't stand this stuff. And it kills the eggs and
larve too.
One thing I do here in the South to repel pests in my garden is my plant an
outside row of onions. I draw the line, so to speak, and most pests won't
cross it.
Hope this helps,
Cathy

I grow sweet sorghum organically. I am currently battling sugarcane aphids
in East Tennessee. Two years ago did not have any and last year had a few,
but this year seems to be more of them. I have sprayed with neem oil but
it appears to not be slowing them down. Any suggestions organically?
Thanks
Scott
