[Syrupmakers] mill rebuild

We did a light overhaul of a cane mill and converted it from a mule driven mill to one that ran off the PTO of a tractor, building a drive unit based off of an old car's rear differential and some sprockets.
As for the bushings that are babbitt, you do have several choices.  I came across a machine shop that fabricated both brass and aluminum bushings that were fitted to the bearing retainers ("bearing shell" not sure what they are called"  and as you do with babbitt, you use a food grade grease lubricant.  I sent out that information to someone last year.  If your mill was like the one we use, you can take the bearing shells to a good machine shop and see what they can build.  I don't know the cost.
If you want to use babbitt, you will have to find someone who can pour babbitt.  Babbitt was used in earl automobile engines, so you will want to search the internet and also you can try contacting some antique car clubs to find out if they know of shops or people who can pour babbitt.  Ford used babbitt in their Model T and Chevrolet used it along with other makers.  One source that did pour babbitt in the past was located in Rochester, NY and the business was Rochester Lead Works.  I do not know if they are still in business or not.
I hope this helps you get your mill up and running.  If you need me to see if I can find information, feel free to send me an email.  I do know of a few restorers.
