Claude, I have a gear box that will fit on top of your mill that is set up already for apto shaft. The gear box shaft will slide over the shaft of your mill then tighten up boltsand its ready to go. Where are you located? I'm in North Georgia. E-mail  jim8544 at yahoo.com
Have a good day,Jim Henderson

Somewhere there is a youtube video of a garden tractor running all by its lonesome, doing good work, no paycheck.  Can't remember how he steered it but it did not wander around on its own.
I'll look for it.  The gear route costs money!

  Hello all,
I have a Chattanooga no. 12 vertical mill and it is using a sweep pole to turn it with a riding mower. What I want to do is set this up to use my Tractor's PTO shaft to turn it and do it all by myself. Plus, it is hard to draft my teen agers to ride the mower around in circles, without a small pay check. Sigh.
Anyway, does anyone know of any large metal gears that I can buy? I am thinking I need a 20 inch for the top of the mill and about an 8-9 inch for other side. These two gears will be connected with a size 80 roller chain.
I can find the other parts I need to build this type of set up and I only need the gears plus the chain. I have not found any that is not super expensive, so any tips will be welcome.
Take care and Happy New Year to all,
  Claude
