[Syrupmakers] Question for sorghum growers

Hey all, I am curious if any of you who grow sorghum for syrup ever side-dress their cane with manure (chicken or horse). I have never done this and wondering if it will speed up growth and/or maturation, as some of my crop seems to be lagging behind. We grow organically, and so do not use commercial fertilizers. I'm in central Missouri and am looking at a cooking date of Oct.1. Any insights appreciated!
