[Syrupmakers] Sorghum Cane Cutting

My friends friends that grow the cane I help cook do their cutting with a slightly modified line trimmer.  It has a saw blade attached - I think some trimmers have kits that allow you to cut small brush and this works well for us, but one has to be really careful due to the spinning saw blade.

 Subject: [Syrupmakers] Sorghum Cane Cutting

I only had around 1/3 of acre of sorghum cane this year. I stripped it in the field. I cut it by hand mostly by myself. Next year I will more than likely have twice that amount. I will still strip before cutting like I did this year. I looked at purchasing a corn binder for cutting. Is this a good way to cut that amount or is there a better way?  Or am I better of still cutting by hand?  I also though about cutting with sickle mower and making a catch for cane. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Scott
