     Minor correction: 1 gallon of propane per 1 gallon of syrup(not juice).            :) 
It would expensive if it were per gallon of juice!

That said, I’ve cut a deal with my local propane supplier, where I scratch his back and he scratches mine (tractor and mechanic work), so I get a great discount on price. ;-)

   Syrup takes about 1 gallon of propane to cook 1 gallon of syrup: this is a rule of thumb. It depends on the efficiency of your burners and setup and the brix of your juice, etc. Typically, a syrupmaking friend of mine that cooks 2 and 3 80 gallon kettles a day will use about 20 gallons of propane on a batch. He will get about 12-15 gallons of syrup. So, the cost of his propane is about $40 to cook 15 gallons of syrup  in an 80 gallon kettle.

Richard, how much propane do you use for cooking a batch of syrup?  I have heard some incredible numbers from some locals here who use wood.  One "estimate" was it would take $400 worth of propane to cook a batch.    
   
Another person allegedly did a calculation and said it would use X BTUs to cook 80 gallons of juice into syrup and therefore, the Y number of cookings will cost you about $1600 for propane (of was the estimate $1200?).  Can you share your opinion or experience?

Yesterday, my cousin informed me that FerrellGas has a sale on for $1.89/gallon. I don't know what areas are covered and when the sale ends, but wanted to pass on the "hot" tip. They usually have 2 sales per year with a real discounted price like this.
